HENDERSONVILLE — Shirley “Dee” Darlene Deady, 66, of Hendersonville passed away Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012. A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Franklin Joseph and Leona Styles Boglinski.
She was the co-owner of Cumberland Financial Group and was employed by J. Crew for a number of years.
She is survived by her loving son, Jeremy Shad Deady and his fiancée, Jennifer Suzanne Langlois.

ZIRCONIA — Helen Morgan Thompson, 88, of Zirconia went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012, at the Elizabeth House following a lengthy illness. A native and lifelong resident of Henderson County, she was daughter of the late Rev. Bricie and Minnie Morgan. She also was preceded in death by her husband, R. L. Thompson, and daughter, Pat Orr.
Mrs. Thompson retired from the Henderson County Public School System as a Cook and was a member of Victory Tabernacle.
Her survivors include daughters, Marie Anderson (Larry), and Sharon Morgan, both of Zirconia; sisters, Alta Lewis, of Zirconia and Suzanne Russell, of Hendersonville; brother, the Rev. Lloyd Morgan, of East Flat Rock; granddaughters, Marcy Pyrtle, of Reidsville, Angie Orr, of Hendersonville, Kelly Anderson and Kayla Morgan, both of Zirconia; great-grandchildren, Hailee, Morgan, Bryan and Cason, and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, in the Chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home with the Revs. Harold McKinnish and Roy Perry officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 30, 2012, at the funeral home.

FLAT ROCK — William Matthew Wauben Jr., 76, went home to the Lord on Sept. 27, 2012, after a heroic struggle with a stroke and related health issues.
Bill was born April 3, 1936, in Lima, Ohio, to the late William Matthew Wauben and Lucy Agnes Konst Wauben and was also preceded in death by his wife, Ann, and brother, Paul.
Bill graduated from Ohio Northern University in 1962 with a BS in Accounting. Bill was a proud veteran of the Navy, where he served as a senior reserve Naval Intelligence Officer for 20 years, including combat in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Purple Heart before retiring as a Commander. Bill also had a 28-year career with the Internal Revenue Service, where he rose to the rank of Assistant Commissioner and was awarded both the Commissioner’s Award and a Presidential Rank Award. He was highly respected by his peers and subordinates for his leadership, intellect, courage and engaging personality. After retiring as the District Director in New Mexico, Bill became a consultant with GC Services.
After marrying his beloved wife, Janice Irene Freese Wauben, on Jan. 13, 1996, they relocated to North Carolina in January 2001 and ultimately settled in Flat Rock. Bill was an avid hunter and fisherman and an adventurer who loved travel and flying his own plane. He was also a gourmet cook and a great storyteller. Bill was active in the community, including at St. John in the Wilderness Episcopal Church, the Adolescent Parenting Program, the Hendersonville Rescue Mission and the WNC Air Museum. Bill also proudly served as a guardian for a World War II Honor Air flight.
Survivors include his wife, Jan; a son, Matt, of whom Bill is very proud, and his wife, Marie, and his adored granddaughter, Cassidy, of Hanahan, S.C.; stepsons, Anthony Collins, of Deerfield Beach, Fla., and Michael Collins, of Lawrenceburg, Ind.; his brothers, Charles, of Delphos, Ohio, Walter, of Wapakoneta, Ohio, and Jim, of Reston, Va., and his sister, Jeanette, of Lima, Ohio.
A celebration of his life will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012, at St. John in the Wilderness Church with the Rev. John Morton and Deacon Joyce Beschta officiating. Military Honors will be observed.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John in the Wilderness Church, 1905 Greenville Highway, Flat Rock, N.C. 28731. Bill’s ashes will be interred at Rose Hill Cemetery, Albion, Neb.

HENDERSONVILLE — Karen Pelagia Chesler, 64, of Hendersonville, NC, passed away October 28, 2012 at The Four Seasons Elizabeth House in Flat Rock, NC.
She is preceded in death by her sister Marianne who passed in 1997.
Karen was born in San Diego, CA to Valentine and Helen Winiecki of Palm Desert, CA. She was a graduate of California State University in Long Beach, and the University of Hawaii. Karen went on to teach Honors English Literature and Film History at Bend High School in Bend, OR, Long Beach Polytechnic High School and Wilson High School in Long Beach, CA. She loved ballroom dance, film, music from The Great American Songbook, and her kitties Simba, Sheba, and Cha-Cha.
Karen is survived by her parents and loving husband of 19 years, Joseph John Chesler of Hendersonville, NC.
She will be cremated and her ashes will be scattered upon the Pacific Ocean in Hawaii.

HENDERSONVILLE — Mary Sue Lindsey Pace, 84, of Hendersonville passed away Monday, October 29, 2012 at Hendersonville Health and Rehabilitation.
Mrs. Pace was a native of Henderson County and a daughter of the late Henry Etta Lindsey and Mamie Gotshaw Lindsey. She is also preceded in death by her husband L.D. Pace who died in 2008; two sisters; five brothers; and son-in-law Larry Shipman.
Sue is retired from J.P. Stevens in Tuxedo and was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.
Survivors include her two daughters, Norma Shipman, Barbara Pace Nix and her husband Dennis; three feline children, Jill, Betsy, and Coco; and several nieces and nephews.

HENDERSONVILLE — Helen Wilson Williams went to be with the Lord with her son by her side Monday, October 29, 2012 at her home in Hendersonville.
She was born in Etowah and was a native and lifelong resident of Henderson County. She was the daughter of the late Clarence Landrum Wilson, Sr. and Ella Hamilton Wilson.
Helen graduated as Valedictorian of the 1940 class of Etowah High School. Although her first love in life was being a mother, she had several other interests as well: she was an avid reader and gardener who loved flowers, butterflies, birds, and a well-kept yard! Helen made jelly and froze fruits and vegetables as recently as this past summer. She was such a strong-willed and determined, yet very loving woman. Even in the last days, she smiled often. Helen was a lifelong member of Refuge Baptist Church in Dana.
She is survived by her loving son, Troy "Buddy" Williams and wife, Sandy, of Hendersonville; sister, Lillian Kiser of Hendersonville; grandchildren, Kim Creech and husband Chad of Wilmington; Shawn Riddle and wife Sara of Houston, TX; and Steven Riddle and fiancé Nicole of Fletcher; great-grandchildren, Katelynn and Cameron; and numerous nieces and nephews. Helen had a special friend, Andrew Justice, of Hendersonville and her beloved cat, Ally.
Helen’s family wishes to express their appreciation to Andrew, Dr. Hill, Four Seasons Compassion for Life, the staff of Economy Drugs and Shuler Funeral Home, and to the many friends and family members who offered their support and prayers.

HENDERSON COUNTY — David Lancaster Steele, Sr., 83, of Henderson County passed away Tuesday, October 30, 2012.
Mr. Steele was a native of Buncombe County and a resident of Henderson County for 53 years. He was a son of the late James Lancaster and Anna Mae Finfrock Steele. He is also preceded in death by his first wife Coleen T. Steele.
David graduated from Lee Edwards High School in Asheville and Western Carolina University. He retired from General Electric Lighting Systems in Hendersonville and was a member of Reformation Presbyterian Church. Mr. Steele served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict as a Staff Sargeant and Radio Tech. He was a member of the American Legion #77 and involved with the local Republican Party for years.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn A. Steele; daughters, Wanda Freeman and her husband Ron, Margie Maxwell and her husband Mickey, Pam Conner and her husband Mike, Jamie Sprouse and her husband Jimmy; son, David Steele, Jr. and his wife Micki; step-daughter, Leasa Goodwin; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; sister, Marian Steele; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, November 3, 2012 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park and a memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Reformation Presbyterian Church. Reverend Matthew Lucas will officiate. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Forest Lawn Funeral Home.

HENDERSON COUNTY — Mary Johnson Pace Hill, of East Flat Rock passed away Friday, October 5, 2012 at Pardee Hospital following a period of declining health. A native and lifelong resident of Henderson County, she was a daughter of the late Jesse Turner and Lucille Pressley Johnson, and the wife of the late Weston Hampton "Dub" Pace, and the late Julian Hill. She was also preceded in death by her brother, William Clarence Johnson, and her sister, Sibyl J. Moffit.
Mary retired after forty-three years of service with the Tuxedo factory last owned by West Point Pepperell. She was a member of the Order of the Amaranth in Hendersonville, and Tuxedo First Baptist Church. Mary supported many local organizations including the Shriners Hospitals for Children in Greenville, SC, Kedron Masonic Lodge, the Saluda Masonic Lodge, and the Order of the Amaranth.
It was Mary’s request to have no memorial service, and to be interred beside of her first husband, Weston "Dub" Pace at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

FLETCHER — William R. Johnson, Sr. "Daddy/Pet" of 18 Cobble Ridge Lane, Fletcher, NC, passed away peacefully and went to be with our Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 28, 2012. He resided at home with his Son Thurman Johnson. He was born August 18, 1914 in Washington, DC to Youter and Laura Johnson.
William graduated from Armstrong High School, Washington, DC. He served in the US Army during World War II upon discharge he came home and married his sweetheart Katie Bell Allen.
He is survived by his son, Denoise Collington (Carolyn, of Greensboro); his daughter, Laura Hymes Groleau (Robert, of Fletcher); his son, William (Bubba) James Johnson Jr. (Dorothy, of Fletcher); his son, Thomas Gary Johnson (Sandra, of Asheville); a son, Thurman Nathaniel Johnson (of Fletcher); grandchildren, Tasha, Amber, Tamra, Thurman Jr., Chas, Lisa, Eric, Jeffery, Ryan, Kenzil, and Natasha; and 4 great-grandchildren.
He was an active member and trustee of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church of Fletcher. William worked and retired from the VA Hospital of Oteen, NC for thirty years. He was a hard worker and devoted husband. He was both, a dedicated father to his six children and grandfather to his grandchildren and many cherished nieces and nephews.
William’s legacy is one of love; love of family, love of friends and love of life. All who knew Daddy benefited from the experience.
A funeral will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, November 1, 2012 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Rev. Odell Suber will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1-2 p.m. at the church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Katie Bell Johnson, and his son, Lawrence Edward Johnson.
