Floride “Flo” Hill Stanley, of Hendersonville, NC passed away Thursday, November 15, 2012 at the Hendersonville Health and Rehab.
She was a native and lifelong resident of Henderson County. The daughter of the late Theodore Albert Hill and Phebe Bryant Hill.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret and a brother William.
She had worked for Park Ridge Cardiology. She attended Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where she enjoyed playing the piano.
She is survived by her loving husband of 42 years, Robert Otis Stanley; a son, Butch Stanley and his wife Gina of Hendersonville, NC; two grandchildren, who she dearly loved, Courtland and Cassidy of Hendersonville; a brother Joe Hill of Hendersonville and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, Monday, November 19, 2012 at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church with Pastor Jonathan Rackley officiating. Burial will follow at the Old Crab Creek Baptist Church (Jeter Mountain Road). The family will receive friends Sunday night from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Jackson Funeral Service.

Logan Avery LaFever
Logan Avery LaFever, infant son of Glen Ashley and Kristen Nicole Hill LaFever of Flat Rock, died Thursday, November 15, 2012, at Duke Children’s Hospital, after a hard fought battle with a congenital heart defect.
In addition to his parents, Logan is survived by grandparents Barry and Doris LaFever, Amanda LaFever and George Jones, Tim Hill, and April and Bobby Deese; 8 great-grandparents; sister Hannah LaFever; brother Aidan Laughter; and numerous aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, November 25, 2012, at Living Water Baptist Church in Hendersonville. The Rev. Tony Birkhead will officiate. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Hendersonville.
His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Thomas A. Conner, Sr
Thomas A. Conner Sr, 84, of Edneyville, NC passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November
14, 2012 at the Elizabeth House.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Henderson County and one of the founders of the Henderson County Rescue Squad.
He was a US Navy Medic during WW II serving on the USS Kearsarge, a Medical Technologist at Pardee Hospital and later at Dupont where he retired.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marlene Rhodes Conner and his parents, M.G. “Jack” Conner and Daisy Searcy Conner.
He is survived by a daughter, Patricia Conner Olson (Robert) of Edneyville, NC; two sons, Thomas Alden Conner Jr. (Becky) of North Pole, Alaska and Kevin A. Conner (Simmons) of New Bern, NC; nine grandchildren; six great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Viola Mae Sinn Deckard
HENDERSONVILLE: Viola Mae Sinn Deckard, 96, of Hendersonville, died on Friday, October 19, 2012 at Life Care Center of Hendersonville.
A native of Bloomington, IN, she was born on June 26, 2012 to the late, Fred Wesley and Grace Pearl Galyon Sinn. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Paul A. Deckard; her brothers, Cleo Sinn, Samuel Sinn, Wesley Sinn Jr. and a sister, Olive Sinn Rone.
She received her Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Indiana University and her Masters Degree from the Indiana University School of Nursing, in Indianapolis, IN. She was Head Nurse, Children’s Floor, at James Whitcomb Riley Hospital, Indianapolis, and served in numerous other hospital, private duty and camp nursing capacities.
After she married Paul, they lived in Fort Sill, OK, until the end of his active military service. He retired as Lieutenant Colonel, United States Army. After Fort Sill, they lived in Logansport, IN, and Upper Montclair, NJ, where Paul served as a public school administrator. Viola and Paul retired to Hendersonville in 1978.
She was a faithful member of Mills River Presbyterian Church, and enjoyed bird watching and gardening.
Viola is survived by her daughter, Deborah Kay Deckard Leonard and her husband, Michael, of Central, SC; her son, Stephen Troy Deckard and his wife, Pamela, of Oneida, NY; her grandchildren, David Hill and his wife, Kim, Dennis Hill and his wife, Nicole, Jessica A. Deckard, Mathew C. Leonard, Paul W. Deckard, Hillary G. Leonard, Stephanie J. Deckard, Phillip A. Leonard, and Gifford J. Leonard; great-grandchildren, David A. Hill, Ryan C. Hill, Christopher A. Hill, and Ainsley Jane Hill. She is also survived by her two brothers, Charles Sinn and his wife, Sue, Paul Sinn and his wife, Rosalee; and her sister-in-law, Katherine Sinn.
A funeral service was held on Saturday, October 27, 2012 at First Christian Church, Bloomington, IN, with the Reverend Dr. Stephen T. Deckard officiating.

Frances Gloria Knapp, 96
Frances Cwynar Knapp was born October 9, 1916, in New Castle, PA, the second of four girls, to Joseph and Karolina Cwynar. She passed away on November 5, 2012, in the comfort of her bedroom at her niece’s house in Salt Lake City, Utah. She attended public schools in New Castle before going to work at Shenango China Co. where she served as a Supervisor and Laboratory Technician. While working there, she met and fell in love with Thomas E. Knapp, and they were married on August 6, 1949. After her marriage to Tom, she left the labor force to become a full-time housewife and caregiver of her widowed mother.
As Tom’s career advanced, she had ample opportunity to hone her housekeeping and entertaining skills as she followed him to Tustin, CA, Reynoldsville, PA, Clarksburg, WV, Joliette, Quebec and Syracuse, NY. In all of this sojourning, she bought and decorated houses while developing an active social life and making lasting friends in all of these locations. She was active as a board member of Jameson Hospital in New Castle, a longtime member of the Corinthian Club in Syracuse, a golfing member of the DuBois Country Club in Pennsylvania and Beaver Meadow Country Club in Syracuse. She also was involved in garden clubs wherever she resided.
She loved history and eagerly explored the local history everywhere she moved. She loved cooking and baking and was still baking breakfast goodies at age 95.
In 1983, Tom retired from Syracuse China and they moved to Etowah, NC, then to The Oaks Condominiums and finally to Heritage Hills in Hendersonville, NC.
After Tom’s passing in January of 2012, Frances relocated to Salt Lake City, UT, to reside with Tom’s niece and husband, Jean and Jeff Brown.
She was preceded in death by Tom, her loving husband of 62 years, and her sisters Mary Pawlak and Helen Scholts. Helen passed a week before Frances on Monday, October 30. She is survived by her sister Jane Zvanya, and numerous nieces and nephews.
As per her wishes, Frances will be cremated, and her ashes will be buried in the Polish National Catholic Cemetery in New Castle, PA between her beloved husband Tom and mother Karolina. Cremation services provided by SereniCare Funeral Home of Draper, UT. Burial arrangements provided by Noga Funeral Home of New Castle, PA.
Uncle Tom and Aunt Frances: it’s been a heck of a ride — I am glad that you are now together with Bubcha, Mary, Helen, Orren and Helen and everyone else that has gone before you. Looking forward to parties in the hereafter!
Regan Andrew Red’ Constant, Jr.
Regan Andrew "Red" Constant, Jr., 55, a native of Henderson County and recent resident of Mt Holly, was called home to be with his Lord on Friday November 16, 2012 at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
He was a son of the late Regan Constant, Sr., and Thursal Holbert.
He is survived by a son, Regan A. Constant, III and his wife, Karri; a daughter, Heather M. Constant; three sisters, Vera, Darlene, and Linda; five brothers, Harold, James, Raleigh, Marvin and Sherman; four grandchildren, Keeran, Gabrielle, Chanler and Kaiden; numerous nieces and nephews and two canine companions, "Scottie" and "Cocoa."
A funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the chapel at Forest Lawn Funeral Home. The Reverend Billy Wooten will officiate. Burial will follow the service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

HIDDENITE— James Garland Durmire, 78, of Sprinkle Dairy Road, Hiddenite, died on Wednesday, Nov. 07 at Iredell Memorial Hospital.

Myra Marie Dimsdale, 87
OREGON— Myra Marie Dimsdale, 87, passed peacefully in the home of her niece, Dian Mayfield on Oct. 10 in Reedsport, Oregon. She was born in Kansas City, Kansas March 6 1926. She lived her young life with her parents Myrtle A. (Whiteside) Dimsdale, who passed in 1998 and lived to be 100, and Frank Dimsdale who also proceeded her in death at age 89.
Myra lived most of her adult life in Hendersonville, North Carolina where her parents were born. She was an avid reader who loved good books, See’s Candy and Big Band Era music. She enjoyed children and had worked as a nanny most of her life in many homes. She also worked in church day care.
Myra had only one loving sister, Beatrice Anne Clary Dimsdale who died three years ago at the age of 85. She 18 aunts and uncles and she had 25 cousins, nineteen which have survived her; Virginia Wood, Bonnie Bly, Andy Dimsdale, Rebecca Sargent, Patsy Taylor, Donnie Feagon, Brenda Blackwell, Betty Stanley Jerry Blackwell, Doris McEntire, David Blackwell, Mary Alice Whiteside, Linda Lee Martin, Joletta Walker, Addie Lee Linch, Jim Whiteside, Charles Whiteside, Clarence Whiteside Jr. and Mary Margaret Singleton. Also surviving Myra is her brother-in-law William J. Clary of Mesa, Arizona and Myra’s four nieces Diane Mayfield, Patricia Rittenhouse, Susan Clary, Melody VanMatre and nephew William Clary Jr. She also is survived by six great nieces, four great nephews and nine great, great nieces and nephews.
Myra loved living in Hendersonville and will be missed and loved always.

Russel M. Sailing, 75
FLAT ROCK— Russel M. Sailing, 75, of Horse Shoe passed away peacefully at Elizabeth House on Tuesday, November 20, 2012. He was born in Caldwell, OH on September 2, 1937. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army attaining the rank of first lieutenant. In 1960 he graduated from Xavier University (Cincinnati, OH). He worked as an accountant/manager for the Chevrolet Motor Division in Ohio and Michigan for 34 years.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Elizabeth, and daughter, Roberta. Preceding him in death were his parents, Edgar and Edna Sailing, and sister, Marleen Oswald. He is also survived by his brothers, Ronald and Roger Sailing.
He was a communicant at Immaculate Conception in Hendersonville, NC. He was an avid sports fan and dedicated viewer of Gunsmoke. He enjoyed his poker club and his travels, especially to Australia and our national parks.

Joan Williams McCormick, 78
FLAT ROCK— Joan Williams McCormick, 78, of Tuxedo, NC passed away Nov.15 at the Elizabeth House.
She was born and raised in Gainesville, Florida, graduated from the University of Florida in 1956, taught business education at Evans High School in Orlando, Florida.
She attended camp as a child for many summers at Camp Greystone at Lake Summit. She enjoyed the area so much she bought a house on Lake Summit in 1980 and moved there permanently in 1999. She loved to play golf at Crooked Creek and with the Blue Ridge Women’s Golf.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank McCormick, her parents, Justus Williams and Mammie Spencer Williams and her cousin, Love.
She is survived by two daughters, Justine M. Scott and her husband Brian of Tuxedo, NC and Loureen McCormick of Cape Coral, Florida; two grandchildren, Kyriea and Spencer Scott both of Tuxedo.
A celebration of life will be held 7 p.m. Dec. 4 at the Chapel In The Pines of Jackson Funeral Service with Rev. Mark McClamrock officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the chapel.

HENDERSONVILLE— Coleen N. Crawford age 86 of Hendersonville, NC died Nov. 17 at Pardee Hospital in Hendersonville. She was born July 11, 1926 in Osceola, Iowa to the late Guy S. Nicholson and Catherine Ritchey. She was the wife of the late Gaither "Doc" Crawford.
She retired from the North Carolina Highway Patrol after 25 years of service and was an active member of Shaws Creek Baptist Church.
She is survived by a son Duane Crawford of Grand Junction, CO.

James Henry Carson
James Henry Carson was born in Hendersonville, North Carolina on April 25, 1926 to George and Maude Mills Carson, and departed this life on Monday, November 19, 2012. He is preceded in death by his parents, Brothers Joseph and Thomas Carson and Sisters Ruth Carson Jenkins, Lillian Carson Dobson and Georgia Carson Tutt, and grandson Jeremy Carroll.
James attended Hendersonville Schools. He met and married the love of his life, Ruth Sullivan Carson on November 8, 1947, and to this union five children were born.
James was a member of Star of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a Trustee, a member of the Adult Choir and the Male Chorus. He served wherever he felt there was a need in the church.
James was a hard worker. He was employed by Lawrence Orr TV Repair for many years. He later retired in February 1988 from General Electric after working 25 years.
James volunteered in his community by providing rides to doctor appointments and running errands for his neighbors and family members. A community advocate, He diligently served on the “Peacock Town” Community Watch Program. He volunteered for three years at the Interfaith Assistance Ministry (food pantry) taking orders and bagging groceries. He served on the Development and Facilities Panels at this Ministry, and was instrumental in helping to target funding sources and initiating financial plans. After three years He began volunteering at Hendersonville Middle School tutoring two students in reading.
James was a member of Rising Star Lodge No. 135, Prince Hall Affiliated in Hendersonville, where he served in many capacities. He was a former member of the East Side Men’s Club.
James leaves to cherish his life, his beloved wife of 65 years, Ruth; five children – Dianna, Hendersonville; Nathaniel (Karen), Newport, News, VA; Sandra and Bruce, Raleigh; and Jerome, Hendersonville. Grandchildren – Nathaniel James (Lindsey); Candice (Chowan); Kristle; Kelsey; A. Unique and Rickie; Great-grandchildren – Jamil, Jalen, Nathaniel James II and Alexis; one Sister in Law, Phoebia Sullivan Littlejohn; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
