FLAT ROCK — Hugh R. Bell, 85, of Flat Rock, passed away Thursday, Jan. 10, 2013, at his home after an extended illness.
Born in Greenville County, S.C., he was a son of the late Mark and Mary Revis Bell. He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Violet R. Bell; a granddaughter, Shelley Russell; a son-in-law, Dexter Rollins; and two sisters, Etha Morgan and Carrie Ritch.
A World War II Navy veteran, Mr. Bell was a 2nd Class Machinist Mate who served on the USS Saturn and the USS LeJeune. He was employed by GE for 32 years, retiring in 1988, and had lived in Henderson County for the last 40 years. Mr. Bell loved gardening and beekeeping and was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Allie Irene M. Bell, of Flat Rock; three daughters, Sybil B. McCall and husband, Don, of Tuxedo, Krystal B. Gillis and husband, Randy, of Ringgold, Ga., and Shelba B. Russell and husband, Hardy, of Saluda; son, Timothy H. Bell and wife, Cathi, of Greer, S.C.; 11 grandchildren, Lynne Rollins and Randy, Laura Rice and husband, Buster, Reggie Rollins, Kim Boyd and husband, Jeff, Curtis McCall, Michael Sean Sandifer, Mark McGraw, Karla Haffey and husband, Jason, Cassie Russell, Cady Early and husband, Kevin, and Chemily Tuttle and husband, Robert, brother, Joseph Fred Bell, of Easley, S.C.; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Sunday, in the Chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home with the Revs. Jimmy Owens and David Summey officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m., Saturday, at Forest Lawn Funeral Home.
