HENDERSONVILLE — Rita Wax,, of Hendersonville, died Dec. 22, 2012, at Pardee Hospital.
Born Feb. 13, 1930, in Brooklyn, N.Y. she received her bachelor’s degree at State University in N.Y. She married Ira Wax and moved to Miami, Fla., and raised two children, Lynne and William Wax. She taught elementary school and then worked for the Miami-Dade County public school system as an administrator and director of the CAP program. Her husband, Dr. Ira Wax, was an assistant superintendent of Miami-Dade County public schools.
She and Ira moved to Hendersonville, N.C., part-time in 1994 and lived here until her death. Rita loved quilting and pottery and recently traveled to Hawaii. She volunteered at the local women’s shelter and the Boys and Girls Club in Hendersonville. She has two grandchildren, Nicolas and Rebekah.
Graveside services were held at Mount Nebo, Miami, Fla. on Dec. 27, 2012.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m., Jan. 20, at Agudas Israel Synagogue.
