HENDERSONVILLE— Russell Eugene Gipe, 76, of Hendersonville passed away, November 4, 2012, at Pardee Hospital after a sudden illness.
Russell was born in Van Wert, Ohio, on November 25, 1935, to the late Frederick Hendrick Gipe and Sarah Margaret Baxter Gipe.
Russell was as humble a man as he was patriotic. He was a decorated Vietnam Veteran, retiring from the United States Marine Corps in 1974 as a Master Sergeant and even from his bed at Pardee he insisted on casting his absentee ballot for the Presidential Election.
Upon his retirement from the military, Russell decided to permanently move his family to Hendersonville. He then began a second career working as service manager at Boyd Cadillac, Hunter Chevrolet of Hendersonville, and Frank Wood Chevrolet of Brevard. He wound up his working career with Fred Liese Warranty Administration of Hendersonville.
Russell was a dedicated family man who was always willing to sacrifice for his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Mitsue M. Gipe; his daughter, Margaret D. Gipe; and his son, Frederick E. Gipe, all of Hendersonville.
A small private graveside service will be held with Full Military Rites at a later date.
