Nettie L. (Nell) Johnson Byers, 92, of Saluda, the last of her generation, passed away peacefully at the Elizabeth House November 13, 2012. She was a native of Polk County and the youngest daughter of the late Joseph A. and Mary Ann (Molly) Holbert Johnson. She was the wife of William Grover Byers who died October 9, 1996. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church of Saluda.
She was preceded in death by seven brothers, Dallas, Willis, Edgar, Alvin, George, Joe Lynn and Ray Johnson and five sisters, Cinderella Johnson, Roxie Holbert, Alma Thompson, Atlas Thompson and Ada Nesbett. She is survived by her four children, Stan Byers (Karen) of Weaverville, Patricia Pollard (Bill) of Raleigh, Kay Murphy (Wayne) and Margaret Woods (Sherrill), both of Hendersonville; eleven grandchildren and their spouses; 19 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
A graveside service will be held Friday, November 16, 2012 at 11:00 AM at the Saluda Cemetery with the Rev. Tom Hayes and Rev. Hank Vetger officiating. The family will receive friends at Friendship Baptist Church Fellowship Hall immediately following the service.
