HENDERSONVILLE — Barbara “Babe” Blatt, formerly of Coral Gables, Fla., and a transplant to Hendersonville in 2001, passed away peacefully on Oct. 16, 2012, in the loving care of Four Seasons Hospice and Hendersonville Health & Rehab.
An avid gardener and nature lover, she won many awards for her landscapes and interior decorating. Her designs were published in many
popular publications. Her gardens at Agudas Israel Synagogue and Duncraggen Condominiums were a sight to see.
She lived a wonderful life of boating and traveling prior to settling in Hendersonville. She built a beautiful home at Runaway Farm in Edneyville
and spent countless days with her beloved grandchildren, Ryan & Josh Alexander and Jason & Avery Blatt, teaching the great outdoors, gardening, fishing, horseback riding, living and loving to the fullest. Barbara was famous for her positive attitude & cheery nature. For her, every day was sunny & bright.
Barbara was gardener laureate for Agudas Israel for many years and was recognized as the 2009 Woman of Valor, recognized by her congregation,
Senators Kay Hagan and Richard Burr, Representative Heath Shuler and Governor Bev Perdue for her landscape and numerous community
achievements.
Barbara was preceded in death by Gerson, her husband of 55 years.
She is survived by daughter, Sue Alexander and husband Kirk, of Colorado; sons, Steve Becker, of Asheville and Jon Blatt and wife Staci, of
Hendersonville and her four grandchildren.
A private service will be held at a later date.
Memorials in her honor may be made to Agudas Israel Synagogue (landscape fund) at 505 Glasgow Lane, Hendersonville, NC 28739 or Four Seasons Hospice at 571 S. Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
