Lt. Col. Bobby V. Crisp, 72
HENDERSONVILLE — Lt. Col. Bobby Verlon Crisp, 72, of Hendersonville, NC, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at his home with his loving wife Sandra by his side.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Brackens-Crisp; two daughters, Stephanie Crisp and Kelly Crisp, of Raleigh, NC, and a son, Stephen Crisp, of Simpsonville, S.C. Also surviving are his step sons, who he loved like his own, Mark Brinkley and Jim Brinkley, of Asheville, NC, as well as seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild and his sisters, Gloria Freeman, of Hendersonville and Glenda Glover, also of Hendersonville.
Bobby was born in Hendersonville, NC, to Rell and Oneda Crisp and proudly served his country in the Vietnam War and retired from the air force as a Lt. Col. logging 6500 hours of flying time as a navigator of C-130s including over 350 combat missions. He received four distinguished flying crosses, 13 air medals, an air force commendation medal, a national defense medal, four armed forces expeditionary force medals, four Vietnam service medals, 26 other service medals and ribbons as well as outstanding young men in America in 1973 and 1974. He also served as a Henderson County political leader and owner of Maple Hill Homes in Mills River, NC.
His civic activities included Santas-In-Blue program manager, Veterans Foundation, Shiners Association, Hendersonville Chamber of Commerce, Air force foundation, Hendersonville YMCA and HHS Catbackers.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Oct. 15, 2012, at Mud Creek Baptist Church. Entombment will follow in Shepherd Memorial Park Mausoleum.
