Gloria Murray
EAST FLAT ROCK — Gloria Morrow O’Connor Murray, of East Flat Rock, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2012, at the Elizabeth House in Flat Rock.
Born Aug. 20, 1930, she was a native of Westerly, R.I., the daughter of the late Louise Spencer Handley Morrow and Michael C. Morrow, Sr. She was also preceded in death by eight brothers, Russell, Marshall, Charles, Francis, and Michael C. Morrow, Jr. and Gilbert, William and Frank Handley, and three sisters, Elizabeth Morrow James, Hazel Handley Cauley and Anne Spencer Morrow Schwer.
Gloria lived in Lyme, Ct., until 1965 when her husband, Arthur Lee O’Connor, died. She moved to Hendersonville in 1967 with her three children, Michael Arthur O’Connor, Thomas James O’Connor and Tracy Anne O’Connor (McGraw). She later married James E. Murray and had another son, James Henry Murray II.
She graduated in 1976 from Blue Ridge Community College as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Gloria worked at Pardee Hospital as an OB nurse, an office nurse for Joseph Vanderwerf, MD, William H. Strickland, MD, and Physicians’ Weight Loss, and she was the Industrial Nurse for Sayles Biltmore Bleacheries in Asheville. Gloria loved living in Hendersonville.
In addition to her children, she is survived by her seven grandchildren, Megan Anne McGraw Welch, Kelly Lynne McGraw Anderson, Jason Lee O’Connor, Carrie Tanielle O’Connor, Kimberly O’Connor, Heather O’Connor, and Haley Morgan Murray; two great-grandsons, David Tyler Anderson and Gabriel Lee O’Connor; sisters, Verna Morrow Gencarella, and Carol Morrow Miller; her daughters-in-law, Rhonda Brown O’Connor, Laura Robinson O’Connor and Mindy Scott Murray; son-in-law, Richard McGraw, and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Between the Morrows and the Handleys there were 62 grandchildren; James Henry was the 62nd.
The family will receive friends from 2 until 4 p.m., Saturday, at Shuler Funeral Home and later at Swan Funeral Home on Boston Post Road in Old Saybrook, Ct. Interment will be at Pleasant View Cemetery in Lyme, Ct., alongside her first husband, Arthur Lee O’Connor.
