Phyllis M. Schneider, 92
HENDERSONVILLE — Phyllis M. Schneider, 92 of Long John Mountain, Hendersonville, passed away on Sept. 20, 2012, at Hendersonville Health and Rehabilitation, Flat Rock, after a short illness.
Phyllis was born on July 4, 1920, in Brooklyn, N.Y., the daughter of the late Frederick W. and Martha L. Wulfing. She graduated from Manhasset High School in 1938 and Hofstra University in 1942. She majored in accounting and was an accomplished athlete, lettering in field hockey and basketball.
She was the wife of the late Clifford P. Schneider, of Hendersonville, who passed away in 1994. She is survived by two sons, Clifford P. Schneider Jr., of Cape Vincent, N.Y. and Stephen A. Schneider, of Hendersonville; a daughter-in-law, Christine M. Schneider, of Cape Vincent, N.Y.; two grandchildren, David C. Schneider, of Watertown, N.Y. and Karen L. Schneider and her husband, Joel E. Wacek, of Boston Mass., and one great-grandchild, Amelia L. Wacek, of Boston, Mass. A brother, Frederick W. Wulfing II, Atlanta, Ga., predeceased her in 1977.
Phyllis was a hospital volunteer for nearly 50 years, the last 30 years with the Pardee Hospital Auxiliary in Hendersonville. She enjoyed gardening, golf and was an avid bowler, bowling the best game of her life, a 220, at the age of 79 years. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hendersonville. Phyllis was caring, proudly independent and will be greatly missed by her friends and family.
A family memorial service will be held at a later date at the First United Methodist Church, Hendersonville.
