Esther M. Skeldon, 75
HENDERSONVILLE — Esther M. Skeldon, 75, of Hendersonville, died on Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2012, at the Elizabeth House. A native of Afton, Mich., she was born on Jan. 22, 1937, to the late James Jackson Haines and Mary Ballard Haines. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Alan Skeldon, who died in 1992.
She received her master’s degree in Early Childhood Education from the University of North Carolina before going on to working as a teacher for many years in Sanford, NC before moving to Tampa, Fl., where she also worked for many schools. She then came to Henderson County to work for Telamon Headstart as director. She and her husband were active members of Bayshore United Methodist Church for many years while living in Tampa, Fl.
She is survived by her daughters, Kristina Skeldon-Gomer and her husband, Edward Gomer, of South Boston, Va., and Kimberly Skeldon, of Hendersonville; her son, Steven C. Skeldon and his wife Synda Staub Skeldon, of Tampa, Fl.; her grandchildren, Chase Skeldon White, Devin White, Jayden Skeldon, Luke Skeldon, Aubrey Skeldon; her sisters, Phyllis Mercer, of Candler, Arlene Hare, of Hendersonville, Irene Wing, of Lantana, Fl.; her brother, Norman Haines, of Carleton, Mich.; her brother-in-law, William Skeldon, of Oak Hill, W.V., and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 5:30 p.m., Friday, at Thos. Shepherd’s Church Street Chapel with the Rev. Mike Engle officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
