Mary H. Davis, 87

CANTON – Mary Hardin Davis, 87, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012, at The Laurels of Hendersonville.
A native of Haywood County and resident for most of her life, she was the daughter of the late George Clinton and Edith Pearl Harkins Hardin. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Robin Pendergrass, who died in 1999 and a brother, Harry Hardin.
She was a 1942 graduate of Canton High School and was class salutatorian. She was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church. Mary was an exceptionally well read lady, and enjoyed crafts and knitting. She provided and cared for her parents in her home in their elderly years.
She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Robert Edward Davis; two daughters, Patricia Blackwell and her husband, Terrell, of Hendersonville, and Ann Scott and her husband, Luke, of Tucson, Ariz.; four grandchildren, Hilary Blackwell, Jennifer Schweitzer and her husband, Brandon, Rhiannon Hatchell and her husband, Jared, and Miranda Pendergrass, and a great-granddaughter, Sadie Ann Schweitzer.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012, at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the Rev. Dean Clontz officiating. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery, Newfound Road. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m., prior to the service at the funeral home.
